We all love long hair and we let it grow during the whole year. But what are you going to do when summer is knocking at your door and your long hair becomes unbearable in the summer heat? Of course you don’t want to cut it after you’ve bothered for a whole year to let it grow. On the other hand you don’t want to go to beach or walk in the sun with your long bangs hanging on your back. Wearing it in a pony tail is not a solution either because you will damage it or you will get bored eventually. So what can you do about it?

I have the best solution for you: African hair braiding. It is a cool hair style, very easy to do by yourself and very easy to maintain. Your long hair will look neat and stylish. In order to achieve this I recommend a particular style of African hair braiding which I call the ‘African Summer’. Follow these easy steps carefully and you will get a fabulous look which everyone will envy.

The whole process will take some time but it has the advantage that you won’t need to care for your hair for a long period of time if you take care of it. You can wear it anywhere, swim and even wash it with the appropriate shampoo. Be careful when you dry it to just tap it with a towel so you don’t damage the braids. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Wash your hair, apply conditioner and detangle it.
  2. Part you hair as you normally do, but make sure you have an even and clean parting.
  3. Choose a side with which you will begin the braiding.
  4. Part this side again in subsections of hair, clipping the parts that you will not braid now.
  5. Start braiding each part as show in the picture below (picture 1).
  6. Do so with all the hair. Make sure that the subsections don’t have a big amount of hair so that the braids turn out slim.
  7. Tie each braid with a tiny elastic band (picture 2).
  8. After you are finished apply a hair spray to fix it and give a shinny look.

Good luck with your African hair braiding!
